Jamaica Participates at UP's International Day
Posted on Thursday, October 22 @ 15:20:42 BST by admin

Events
The Jamaican High Commission mounted a display at the University of Pretoria's 2009 International Day to promote Jamaica's image and culture. Over 100 exhibitions were on display on the day, which also included the annual Mr UP International and Miss UP International Contests. The event was held on October 16, 2009 at UP's main campus.

Jamaica's lone student at the University, Gerard Smith, did a crowd stopping mix of a showcase depicting Jamaica's sporting heritage and dance. Much to the delight of the crowd some Usain Bolt and Bob Marley memorabilia was up for grabs.

Jamaica won 3rd place for its exhibit which highlighted culture, food (with samples of popular foods and drinks) and music, as well as trade and general facts on Jamaica. A 'Guess the Artiste' competition was one of the hits of the day, as participants sought to match the popular artistes from a quick snippet of a song.
