The Jamaican High Commission in collaboration with African World Football and the Atlanta Youth Soccer Association hosted a Football Development Clinic on Thursday, 1st July 2010, at the Sinetjhudu Primary School in Kwaggafontein, Mpumalanga.

Students from South Africa Arrive for Athletic Tour of Jamaica

Twenty eight students and three officials from South Africa's Willowridge High School arrived in the island, yesterday (March 22), for a 10-day visit, during which they will attend this week's annual Boys' and Girls' Championships, at the National Stadium.

Reggae Seminar in South Africa

February has been declared as Reggae Month by the Government of Jamaica and since 2008 the month has been used to highlight the role of reggae music and the impact of its philosophy on Jamaican culture, industry and society as well as the global impact of reggae.

Jamaica v South Africa Friendly International

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz will do battle against South Africa's Bafana Bafana on Tuesday November 17, 2009 at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. The FIFA 2010 World Cup hosts, currently ranked at 85 have been having a rocky run and recently released their Brazilian coach Joel Santana replacing him with his predecessor Carlos Alberto Parreira.

Jamaica Participates at UP's International Day

The Jamaican High Commission mounted a display at the University of Pretoria's 2009 International Day to promote Jamaica's image and culture. Over 100 exhibitions were on display on the day, which also included the annual Mr UP International and Miss UP International Contests. The event was held on October 16, 2009 at UP's main campus.

Having watched Usain Bolt set a new 100-metres and 200-metres world record for men after phenomenal and dumbfounding sprinting, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart who finished, first, second and second in the women’s 100-metres final, leaving the trio of girls from the USA wondering what hit them, Melaine Walker’s smashing performance over the 400-metres for women hurdles and Veronica Campbell-Brown repeat performance in the 200-metres for women, a friend of mine called me from South Africa to ask, “Why are Jamaican athletes able to run so fast?”
