TRADE AND INVESTMENT
 Jamaica’s economy has a long history of trade and investment, dating back to the days of discovery in the 17th Century, through the sugar and banana years up to the mining and manufacturing period. The evolution has continued with the services and financial sector and creative industries now joining the ranks of valuable investment opportunities.
Jamaica’s major investment industries are Tourism, Agri-business, Manufacturing, Minerals and IT Communications. Major export products include world famous rum and coffee, sugar, bananas, bauxite/alumina and music. Opportunities exist in all these areas.
Jamaica has achieved a level of economic stability that provides an environment encouraging strong investment; foreign direct investment continues to grow with Jamaica recently ranked 17th (World Investment Report) in attracting foreign investment which exceeded US $900 million in 2006. Inflation was recorded at a 30-year low of 6% with GDP expected to grow by around 3% in fiscal year 2007/8. The Government has taken deliberate measures to control inflation and to bring about a reduction of interest rates. The economy has been buoyed by strong Net International Reserves and increasing remittances to the island. This is buttressed by a strong physical infrastructure including first rate telecommunications, an extensive road network, and world standard air and sea ports.
 The area of culture also represents an area ripe for investment since this product is well developed and already enjoys recognition around the world, especially as it relates to music and sports. Jamaica’s people are a primary resource, with highly skilled professionals available in just about every area of expertise. The business sector is also well organised and ready to enter into viable partnerships with foreign entities, including bringing new products to the vibrant Jamaican market.
